Spain at risk of being 'thrown out of Euro 2024' with tournament just months away

England rivals Spain are reportedly at risk of being thrown out of EURO 2024

Spain could reportedly be thrown out of EURO 2024 with the tournament starting in less than two months.

EURO 2024 is set to get underway in Germany in June, with Spain amongst the favourites to go all the way.

La Roja won back-to-back EURO titles in 2008 and 2012, last time out, they were knocked out by eventual winners Italy in the semi-finals.

However, ahead of this year’s competition, it has been claimed that Spain could be thrown out of the tournament.

As reported by The Sun, Spain could be banned from EURO 2024 due to government interference in the Spanish FA.

In addition, Spanish clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona could also be banned from next season’s Champions League.

Meanwhile, Spain’s hosting of the 2030 World Cup could also be in doubt.

It is believed that the president of Spain's Supreme Sports Council, Jose Manuel Rodríguez-Uribes, has sent a letter to both UEFA and FIFA in a bid to explain why it was required for the government to be involved.

However, it has been claimed by AS that both UEFA and FIFA have not responded well to the letter and that they believe a line has been crossed.

Both organisations then sent back a joint letter stating any form of government involvement would not be tolerated.

Now, it is said that the Supreme Sports Council have to give answers to these questions by Friday:

  • On what legal and/or factual basis was the Commission appointed?
  • Who makes up the Commission and who appointed its members?
  • What is the Commission's exact mandate?
  • What power does the Commission have?
  • What relationship does the Commission have with the statutory decision-making bodies in the RFEF?

The report stated that if the answers are satisfactory, it is likely that no action will be taken against the Spanish FA.

However, if unsatisfactory, Spain could face immediate suspension by both UEFA and FIFA.
