Fans shocked at Lando Norris’ reaction to Donald Trump following his first F1 win

Lando Norris secured his first Formula 1 victory at the Miami Grand Prix

Lando Norris’ reaction to Donald Trump after his Miami Grand Prix victory has got Formula 1 fans talking.

On Sunday, Norris finally recorded his maiden F1 victory after he saw the chequered flag 7.6 seconds ahead of Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen.

The Brit previously held the record for the most podiums without a victory in the sport with 15.

In truth, Norris was handed a huge advantage after the safety car was deployed on the back of an incident involving Haas' Kevin Magnussen and Williams driver Logan Sargeant.

After the race, Norris was pictured with former United States of America president Trump.

Speaking about his interaction with the businessman turned politician, Norris told the Daily Mail: “He saw me after and he came up to congratulate me so I guess it's an honour.

“Whenever you have someone like this come up to you to take time out of their life to pay their respect for what you've done ... it has to be an honour.”

He added: “I don't know if he's going to come to more races now.

“But there's a lot of special, cool people that have been here this weekend. Donald is someone that you've got to have a lot of respect for in many ways and for anyone like that who acknowledges what you can go out and do, and the work ethic that goes into things, you've got to be thankful for that.”

Norris’ team, McLaren, previously sent out a statement distancing themselves from Trump’s political party.

It read: “McLaren is a non-political organization however we recognize and respect the office of President of the United States so when the request was made to visit our garage on race day we accepted alongside the president of the FIA and the CEO’s of Liberty Media and Formula 1.”
